Develop Innovative satellite platforms for telecom constellations. For our locations in Italy and Switzerland Freezz is looking for a versatile Electrical Hardware Engineer to develop units and subsystems for Friisat and other commercial products. The role focuses primarily on design, analyses and test of electrical and electronic hardware for the Friisat spacecraft, from schematic through board and unit-level testing. This position is well suited to an engineer who enjoys working across design development and eventually test hardware at all levels and wants to contribute at multiple levels of a complete the full satellite system.
What Will You Do
You’ll design, analyse and test electrical and electronic hardware for the FRIISAT spacecraft, from schematic through board and unit-level testing. Working closely with systems engineering, AIT and manufacturing partners, you’ll be responsible for:
- Electronics Design: Power conditioning and distribution circuits: DC/DC conversion, regulation, protection and power switching.
- Driver design for spacecraft loads and actuators.
- Sensor interface electronics: signal conditioning, acquisition front-ends, voltage/current/temperature sensing.
- Actuator electronics: drive and control circuits and their interfaces to platform units.
- Electrical design & CAD: Schematic capture and PCB layout with electrical CAD tools.
- Component selection, including COTS parts, with screening and qualification support.
- Design-for-manufacturing and design-for-test for serial production.
- Analyses: Part stress and derating analysis.
- Worst Case Analysis (WCA).
- FMECA and reliability prediction.
- Other analysis and simulations [autocad or other tools].
- Test & AIT: EMC testing (conducted and radiated emissions and susceptibility) at board and unit level.
- Board and unit-level AIT: bring-up, functional and performance testing, test benches and EGSE.
- Test plans, procedures and test reports.
- TVAC and Environmental test support.
What We Are Looking For
- Degree in Electronic or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.
- 1+ year in spacecraft electrical/electronic engineering.
- Experience in analogue and digital electronics design.
- Experience in schematics and PCB design (schematic capture and layout).
- Familiarity with part stress, derating and worst-case analysis.
- Hands-on in the lab: board bring-up, test equipment, EMC testing.
- Product-oriented, hands-on mindset; comfortable moving between design, analysis and hardware.
- Tools: electrical CAD (schematic and PCB layout), circuit simulation.
- Strong problem-solving, documentation, and teamwork skills.
- Professional working proficiency in English.
Valuable Additional Experience
- New Space or small-satellite background.
- COTS electronics for space, control electronics, microcontroller basics some software experience.
- EMC design for spacecraft.
- Specific assembly techniques, manufacturing processes and materials for high-temperature-range solutions.
- Design for large-scale production (design-to-cost).
- Italian/German/French/Spanish language skills.
Why Join Us & Hiring Details
At Freezz you won’t work on a narrow slice of the design: you’ll get your hands on the electronics of a satellite built to fly – and to fly soon, taking your boards from schematic to tested hardware. We take a new approach to building spacecraft: short design-build-test loops, real hardware on the bench early, and decisions made by the people who do the work, from day one and without committee overhead. That means a steep, fast learning curve. You’ll see your schematic become a board, your board go through bring-up and EMC test, and your design head to orbit. And you’ll learn it in a lean, enthusiastic team where building satellites is serious work and real fun, that’s the added value we offer. All of this as part of a European New Space success story backed by ESA and EU programmes.
