Shape the integration of satellite and terrestrial mobile networks. Freezz is developing Friisat, an integrated satellite-connectivity platform designed to complement terrestrial mobile networks. Using satellites in Very Low Earth Orbit, Friisat aims to provide reliable, low-latency connectivity directly to personal and vehicular devices. For our locations in Italy and Switzerland we are looking for a 5G/NTN Network Engineer to design, simulate, integrate, and validate the network architecture behind the Friisat service.
What You Will Do
- Define end-to-end 5G/NTN architectures covering space, ground, radio-access, transport, and core-network segments.
- Translate service and coverage objectives into network requirements, interfaces, configurations, and operational procedures.
- Analyse 3GPP specifications and identify the features, constraints, and implementation choices relevant to Friisat.
- Design network behaviour for registration, authentication, mobility, paging, handover, routing, and service continuity.
- Address NTN-specific effects including long and variable delays, Doppler, satellite movement, moving cells, timing relationships, and intermittent visibility.
- Support the development tasks in the area of gNB, payload compute, service and feeder link.
- Contribute to NTN-RAN, and 5G Core integration.
- Model network capacity, coverage, availability, latency, traffic demand, and quality of service.
- Define resource-management, beam-management, mobility-management, and network-selection strategies.
- Develop network simulations, prototypes, test plans, and system-level validation environments.
- Analyse protocol traces and troubleshoot issues across RRC, PDCP, RLC, MAC, PHY, transport, and core-network functions.
- Work with RF, DSP, embedded-software, cloud, security, and satellite-systems teams.
- Support demonstrations, partner integrations, field trials, and interoperability testing.
- Support spectrum coordination or telecommunications regulatory requirements related activities.
- Maintain technical documentation and contribute to standards and design reviews.
What We Are Looking For
- Master’s degree in telecommunications, networking, electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related field; or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong knowledge of 4G/5G architecture and 5G New Radio.
- Understanding of RAN functions, protocol layers, mobility, radio-resource management, QoS, and 5G Core interactions.
- Practical knowledge of 3GPP NTN architecture and satellite-network constraints.
- Experience with network design, simulation, integration, optimisation, or protocol testing.
- Ability to interpret standards and convert them into implementable system requirements.
- Familiarity with IP networking, routing, transport protocols, security, and network observability.
- Strong troubleshooting and systems-thinking skills.
- Professional working proficiency in English.
Valuable Additional Experience
- 3GPP Release 17 or later NTN specifications.
- Direct-to-Device or Direct-to-Cell satellite services.
- Open-source or commercial 5G stacks and network simulators.
- Private 5G networks, virtualised RAN, or cloud-native 5G Core deployments.
- Network slicing, edge computing, service orchestration, or software-defined networking.
- Satellite gateways, regenerative payloads, transparent payloads, or inter-satellite links.
- Python, C++, packet analysis, network automation, or data-analysis tools.
- Telecommunications standards, spectrum regulation, and operator interoperability.
Why Join Us & Hiring Details
You will help define how a new satellite constellation behaves as part of the wider mobile ecosystem. The role offers the opportunity to influence architecture, standards implementation, system performance, and the real-world integration of terrestrial and non-terrestrial networks.
